A haven of culture and history on the Amalfi Coast

The story of La Cocumella begins in 1637, when in this enchanting corner of the Sorrento peninsula a Jesuit residence was opened, dedicated to rest, wellbeing and study.
It was thanks to the humanist Fr Nicola Giannettasio that the estate also acquired one of the most beautiful churches on the Sorrento coastline, and also became an important cultural centre.

Since 1777, the residence has welcomed travellers from all over the world, from Goethe to Mary Shelley, Joachim Murat and Sigmund Freud - all of whom chose this enchanting location as a place to stay on their Grand Tours.
This is truly a haven for the soul, nestling between sea and countryside, where the inspiration of a bygone era blends into a backdrop of stunning landscapes, harmonious architecture and the enchantment of the ancient gardens.
